2025 TRIANGULAR MATCHES

TERMS OF THE COMPETITION

16th – 18th April 2025

1. Eligibility

To be eligible entrants must be:

a) Male or Female and of amateur status as defined by R&A Rules Limited

b) Be aged 16 years or under for Male entrants and 17 years or under for Female entrants on the 1st January 2025.

c) In possession of a WHS Handicap Index.

d) Are eligible to play in the closed Amateur Championship of their respective Country.

 

2. General

a) Each team shall consist of 10 players (6 boys & 4 girls).

b) The championship shall be played in accordance with the R&A Rules of Golf, the Golf Ireland Hard Card and any Additional local rules approved onsite by Golf Ireland.

c) Caddies are not permitted, and spectators must not walk close to or speak to the players during play.

 

3. Format

a) The format of the championship is round-robin match play contested over 3 days.

b) Each team will play a schedule of four matches, twice against each country. Every match consists of 3 foursomes and 4 singles.

c) 1 point shall be scored for a game win in the foursomes and singles with a ½ point awarded for a halved game and 0 points for a loss. The team with the most game points from the match will be awarded: 1 point for a Match win, ½ point for a drawn Match and 0 points for a Match lost.

d) The matches for each day will be determined by Golf Ireland.

e) Captains will decide the pairings and order of play for the foursomes and singles. These should be submitted to Golf Ireland on the official team submission form no later than half an hour before the commencement of play in the morning and half an hour before the team concerned is due to start in afternoon session.

f) Failure to submit the order of play by the required deadline on the 1st day will result in the order of play being determined by the alphabetical list of the team members surnames. On subsequent days the order of play from the previous day will be used automatically.

g) In the event of a match or matches being abandoned the results of all individual matches completed will stand as will matches having played a minimum of 9-holes provided at least 5 matches have played at least 9-holes. Matches not commenced or having completed fewer than 9-holes will count as halved matches. In the event of extreme weather conditions where the availability of the course(s) is reduced, single matches will take precedence.

h) Positions shall be determined according to the highest number of match points. When two or more Countries have scored an equal number of match points the positions shall be determined by the number of individual match points (including half matches). If still a tie, the country with the highest number of individual matches wins (excluding half matches) shall win. If still a tie it shall be resolved by aggregating the number of holes played in the individual matches won and the team with the fewest number of holes played shall be declared the winner.

i) In exceptional circumstances e.g., in the case of inclement weather, Golf Ireland reserves the right to amend the format and any conditions pertaining to it sees fit in order to achieve a result.

j) All disputes will be decided by Golf Ireland whose decision will be final.

 

4. Prizes

The winners of the championship will be the Triangular Champions.

A prize presentation will follow the conclusion of play.
